KS3:

At Shenfield High School students study Drama from Year 7 all the way up to Sixth form. Areas of focus surround an enriching and engaging curriculum outlining the development of drama skills and techniques throughout KS3. We base our schemes of work on imaginative and engaging topics that can range from script work, to improvisation, to process drama where students focus on more socio-political issues, or events that happened in the past. All schemes are embedded with the ideas and techniques of different Theatrical Practitioners. These only help to enrich the ideas even further. Students can expand their creativity through theme-based topics whilst accessing vital knowledge and understanding on how to progress further through stretch and challenge tasks, performance lessons and a clear focus on reflection and evaluation. Drama studies goes beyond the classroom and students are encouraged to access available PREP tasks to inspire and enhance their learning. In this respect students are being prepared from Year 7 if they would like to take the subject for GCSE or BTEC. At no stage is the subject being made a, ‘soft subject’. If Drama is not a subject that your child wishes to take further after Year 9 then it will still have facilitated them in that their team skills, ability to be confident and to actively use their imagination and be creative is always prevalent.

Alongside the curriculum students are given the opportunity to go and see live theatre performances, be involved in workshops, and have access to joining extra-curricular clubs and events. The school also has the Whole School Musical and the Lower School Play that all students can audition for.
